Paris Summer 2022

Teaching the Summer session of Music and Art Humanities is Paris never gets old. Although these courses form a standard part of Columbia University‘s famed Core Curriculum, there is nothing ordinary about taking them as a pair, in Paris, during the summer. Together with my teaching partner, eminent art historian Prof. Robert E. Harrist , Jr., I share a small group of carefully selected students (who are not only academically brilliant, but can live through a heatwave without AC, and not complain). When we are not teaching, we attend each other’s daily lectures. Those are followed by numerous museum outings, monument visits, evenings at the opera and ballet, trips out of town (Fontainebleau, Giverny, and Versailles), delicious meals, and endless discussions. Being in this magnificent city, with my loved one, among the colleagues I deeply admire, experiencing the miracles of art and music together - what’s not to like?
