Debussy's Estampes: Introduction. Magdalena Baczewska, piano; Bach@Home

This is the first Bach@Home video featuring music of a composer other than J. S. Bach. Pianist and harpsichordist Magdalena Baczewska explores ‘Estampes,’ the beloved cycle for solo piano by Claude Debussy, in anticipation of the release of her new album “Debussy on 5th Avenue.” Debussy takes us on a journey to an East-Asian pagoda, an evening in Granada, and a French garden amidst a torrential rain. You will learn about the pentatonic mode, Arabic (double-harmonic) scale, and a modernist way in which Debussy incorporates two folk songs into his music.
