New Release! Hip-Hopsichord

“Deliciously different sonic adventure.”

“An excellent excursion.”

“Most enjoyable listen.”

Announcing new release! Hip-Hopsichord for harpsichord and samplestra by Gene Pritsker. Magdalena Baczewska, harpsichord.  Program note by Gene: Hip-Hopsichord combines the virtuosity of harpsichord playing with electronic hip-hop/techno/r&b/drum&bass rhythms. I use the word Samplestra to describe my electronic music that is completely notated. I create a score out of my electronic compositions, kind of an orchestra of samples (thus the name), beats, effects, etc. The 3 main movements mess with old school hip-hop sounds, modern rap and r&b rhythms, and drum&bass, techno like grooves. They are separated by 2 interludes, which are for solo harpsichord and give the listener a break from the electronic beat-driven music with some contemporary baroque influenced reflections.

Prior Pritsker-Baczewska collaborations include Music for Dreams ChillHop Remix, an album created for the Bluesleep medical team specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Baczewska also appears in Pritsker's piece What Matters, written for the Protest album, in the wake of the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
